Ed’s connection to architecture started early. His grandfather, Henry Adams, worked with Robert McNamara on colleges around the world for the Ford Foundation, so the idea that buildings could have a real impact was part of the family story long before Ed chose the profession for himself.
While still a sophomore at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Ed joined King Builders as a draftsman, working on agricultural facilities across West Texas. It was a practical beginning to what would become a 45-plus-year career—and probably a good introduction to the fact that architecture is rarely as simple as the first sketch makes it look.
Ed earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Texas Tech in 1980 and became a licensed architect in 1993. Since then, he has worked on everything from hospitals, schools, and athletic facilities to retail centers, government buildings, office-warehouses, commercial projects, and parking structures. Along the way, he became especially skilled at the parts of practice that keep projects on track: programming, planning, estimating, coordination, documentation, and construction administration.
When Madeline needed an experienced architect she already knew and trusted to help lead projects at SLAY, Ed was a natural choice.

Today, as Senior Project Architect, Ed stays involved from the earliest client conversations through construction. He helps turn program requirements into workable design solutions, guides the project team through construction documents, and stays engaged when the drawings meet the realities of the field.
After more than four decades in practice, Ed has learned where projects tend to get complicated—and, more importantly, how to keep them from staying that way.
Ed is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the Texas Society of Architects.
